HAPPY 220th BIRTHDAY !!  Many of you might have thought I was wishing my old friend BiBBz a Happy Birthday... however, No... The USS Constitution, a wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy, named by President George Washington after the Constitution of the United States of America was launched on October 21, 1796 at a cost to the US taxpayers of $302,718. One of six original frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794 and the third constructed. . Joshua Humphreys designed the frigates to be the young Navy's capital ships, and so Constitution and her sisters were larger and more heavily armed and built than standard frigates of the period. She was built in the North End of Boston, Massachusetts at Edmund Hartt's shipyard. Her first duties with the newly formed U.S. Navy were to provide protection for American merchant shipping during the Quasi-War with France and to defeat the Barbary pirates in the First Barbary War.  |

If I recall correctly--- the USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned ship of any navy in the world, certainly the oldest commissioned ship in the US Navy.

That's one TUFF ship. Sorry to hear about your eye accident. Take care of your peepers; wear glasses instead of contacts when working in dusty conditions. Hope your eye heals quickly.
